1ST bREW DAY IN ANNA

Friday, December 29 the first legally produced commercial beer in Anna was brewed at 3 Nations.  It is an English Summer Ale aptly named Mogul 201 after the steam locomotive just down the street at the oldest train depot in the state of Texas.

3 Nations has installed a brew house and four 5-barrel fermenters to serve Anna and surrounding communities.  The beer should be available for consumption by mid-January.  Watch for notices when the beer is available.

Some History of Mogul 201

The train depot in Anna, TX is the oldest surviving Depot in Texas.  It is the home of Mogul locomotive 201.  Mogul 201 is a 2-6-0 (two six oh) steam locomotive in 1906 in New Jersey.  It was originally built to be used in the construction of the Panama Canal.  The Panama Canal opened in 1914 and the train was intended to be sold to a scrap metal company.

It was bought by a Texas lumber company that had service in the Piney Woods of East Texas to Houston.  After several uses, it was used to pull a tourist train in Eureka Springs and North Arkansas.  You may also see the train in the TV miniseries “The Blue and the Grey” starring John Hammond, Stacy Keach, Lloyd Bridges and Gregory Peck.

Mogul 201 was retired in 2001 and placed on display at Eureka Springs, AR.  The city of Anna was seeking a steam locomotive for the park and historical depot.  The train, with a long Texas history, was moved to Reader, AR for renovation before being sent to Anna for display.

If you haven’t been by the Depot to see Mogul 201, go east on 4th Street from 3 Nations Brewery, across the railroad tracks and you can’t miss the beautiful park, historical depot, and of course Mogul 201.
